A wide range of stirrups can be used for showing. Most of the traditional types of stirrup will be perfectly fine. The only real type of stirrup that does look un smart in the ring are the modern (and sometimes colourful) stirrups that are used mainly for show jumping. 


I always prefer a safety stirrup for younger riders, either a bent leg or one with a band. If using  bands they should match the riders boot or even better (if you can find them!) a canary/cream pair.


A plain silver coloured stirrup is the most commonly used for adult classes, though I often use a bent leg.
