There are lots of different types of classes for hunters, from in hand to ridden to working hunter. It would be easy to think that the smallest type would be the lead rein show hunter ponies, though actually the first riddens and cradle stakes ponies have the same height limit of 122cm. In the pony classes, for both the flat classes and working hunters, the measurements are as follows: 122cm, 133cm, 143cm and 153cm. I won’t go into the age limits for the pony classes now but the intermediates, that acts as a stepping stone for the horse classes, has an age limit of 25 and a height requirement of 148cm to 158cm. The intermediates have both working and flat sections too.

When you get on to the horse classes the main sections are lightweight, middleweight and heavyweight. There is also a small hunter section for horses not exceeding 158cm, where the horse should look like a miniature middleweight, and the ladies hunter class where horses are ridden sidesaddle.
